How It All Began
My love for language and art began early in life.
Initially surprising everyone by speaking in complete
sentences before I was a year old, artistic expression
soon took over when I discovered crayons.
By age two I had already started a promising and
versatile art career by creatively express my love for
animals on all available surfaces Murals on freshly painted walls were among
my first artistic expressions, much to the surprise of my parents. Over the years, I continued to surprise many people with my artistic ability, until one day I was persuaded to limit my creative work to paper.
In addition to the guidance of many adult artists, my
formal art training began as a scholarship recipient
at the Junior School of the Art
Institute of Chicago when I was ten and continued later
as an illustration major at the College of Fine & Applied
Arts (U of I-Champaign) and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts. Over the years I explored many different media surfaces, eventually developing a
technique and drawing style that was uniquely my own.

Gail Green Today
Although I no longer dress in the same style as
I did when I was younger, I still get paint, ink and
glitter on my face and fingers…and I have reverted back to my earlier exploration of multiple
surfaces. The technique I use to create Sweet
PETatoes® artwork is complex and the inspiration endless.
Ideas come from EVERYWHERE!
While working, I always have several happy
(and sometimes crazy) Border Collies under
my chair or snoozing on top of my feet…plus a
cockatiel nearby who thinks he’s a dog and
another one who thinks dogs are meant for
bareback riding. Their antics, along with
those of various dogs, cats and other animals
and pets belonging to friends, neighbors and family offer unlimited inspiration and
opportunities for creativity!
Inspiration comes in many forms...and Sweet PETatoes comes straight from my heart!
